Should I tell Katie?

Hi, this is Katie's mom posting this time. Ever since Tony King (see prior posting) gave us the photo of the wedding flowers, I've had new inspiration. I've been trying to recreate that look on the magazine and I think I've FINALLY found what Katie is looking for, but I'm not sure I should show it to her...lol! The "garden roses" I found are beautiful, but I've never worked with them before. And they are more expensive (of course). Katie initially wanted peonies, and well, if you know peonies, they bloom in the spring and getting them in August well....over the top. So I guess that's why Katie has been so indecisive about her bouquet. So, I guess, I'm telling her huh? Well I guess she will see them the next time she looks at the blog...wonder how long that will take? Katie what do you think?

TONY KING Bridal Alterations came with excellent references--but getting to Tony's loft studio in downtown Cincinnati was a bit tricky-- so Isaac came to our rescue and took me, Danielle, and my mom. Tony was absolutely great-- I loved him and his studio. He not only took care of my dress, but gave me a great idea for my bouquet---nope---still haven't decided definately on what I want--it's driving my mom crazy since she will be making it. BUT, the picture that Tony gave me is exactly what I want..I think! Isn't it beautiful?

Thanks!

Thanks to all of the wonderful women at my church (Mulberry Wesleyan Church) I had my first shower on May 17th. It was a lot of fun and beautiful. Barb and Michelle did an excellent job putting together my shower. Barb did a great spread and prepared a couple of fun games and prizes for everyone, while Michelle took care of the decorating. Morgan, my new little sister, (sister in law) is the cutie sitting next to me. She was my special helper at the shower. I really enjoyed that afternoon having fellowship with everyone. I want to say "Thank you" to everyone for coming and for all the wonderful gifts, Isaac and I really appreciated them. I know Isaac and I both hope to see you all at the wedding!

Our Wishlists

Now you can find links to our registries on the blog! Just click to go straight to lists of what we need (and want) to start our new life. It was really hard to decide what to pick. Actually, I had a couple panicky feelings when I thought that this stuff would most likely be with me for a very long time. Luckily, Isaac was there to encourage me to lighten up. Registering is supposed to fun, right?

Garden Guestbook

Our guestbook is not your average signature log. We decided to use an actual book by Mick Hales, Gardens Around the World: 365 Days. I hope everyone will enjoy browsing the many lovely pictures of gardens when they sign in. Unlike other guestbooks, this one won't be out of place if it sits on a coffee table after the wedding.

Caning It

To get a bike or not to get a bike....that was the question. The answer...to get a bike. Last Monday Isaac bought a motorcycle. At first, I was completely against the idea. That is until I found out how much cheaper a parking pass would be at Ohio State University for a bike compared to a car. Isaac recently got his license to operate it and now wants me to take a ride. I don't really see myself as a biker babe. Don't expect to see us caning it* after the ceremony. He'll be lucky to get me on it at all. Maybe this will be the first GREAT COMPROMISE?

*To ride a motorcycle very aggressively.

Rose Evolution

It has been really difficult for me to decide what flowers I want in my bouquet. This one is called "Rose Evolution" and is described as a bi-color white/hot pink. My Mom and Aunt Marcia will be in charge of all things floral. I'm sure whatever the final decision, it will turn out great!

A Family Favorite

Enormous and delicious. That's how I would describe the strawberry shortcake at Ivanhoe's. On a sugar-crusted cake sits a mountain of fresh strawberries topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Mom, Melissa, Morgan and I split two. Isaac of course had to order coffee ice cream with extra ice cream. We consumed all of it to the last drop. Ivanhoe's has been a family favorite and I hope to include its tastiness on our special day.

Sunny, Cool!

Mom looked up my wedding weather prediction in the 2009 Farmer's Almanac. Looks pretty promising---SUNNY and cool. Not bad for August 1st. Apparently, just for the fun of it, she also viewed the forecast for Cincinnati the same day...RAIN! If this turns out to be, my destination wedding is even better. Hope it's right!

Loves Me Like A Rock

Over the weekend we took a trip up to Summitville to meet with the caterers and check out rehearsal dinner options. While there, we snapped a few photos of our future wedding landscape. Rock marks the spot.

Guess and Check

While this sample bridesmaid bouquet isn't the exact look I am going for, I am always impressed by the arrangements my mom puts together from the local grocery store. I can't wait until we figure out the perfect combination!

Healthy Ideas

With Vitamin String Quartet, I have found spunky musical inspiration for the ceremony. You know, just the right amount.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

Save The Dates are out at last with a big thanks to mom for all her help! We decided to use the sketch of the Powell house done by my sister not only on the Save The Date cards but also the stamps. I think it turned out just right!

Au Naturel

Found this beautiful picture on TheKnot---I love the simplicity of design. Fresh and natural----as if you just picked them yourself!

Tasting #1

Katie's future mother-in-law Melissa brought home a pork loin one day so they could experiment with different recipes for the wedding. They both stayed up LATE Saturday night to prepare a little "tasting" for all of us. Thanks Katie and Melissa! It was fun getting together again. Isaac and his brother Jacob took the opportunity to tease Katie, while Morgan, Isaac's little sister, now 8 years old, contimplated the differences between a flower girl and a junior bridesmaid. The food was good: pork loin medallians prepared two different ways, corn with some unique toppings, the best rolls that Kroger could offer (not what we have planned for the wedding!) and a scrumptious salad. Whether or not these make it to the wedding--you will just have to wait and see. But I know one thing--I'm looking forward to more of these "tastings"! Yum! Katie and Melissa love to cook!----MOB (mother of bride)

Got 2 Love

The Knot is such a great wedding site! So many awesome ideas gathered into one helpful spot. AND when you sign in they remind you of how much time left until the big DAY!

Rustic Elegance

Our wedding will take place outside on my Aunt Cindy's property----a beautiful 19th century red brick farmhouse with several acres. I really like the simplicity of incorporating stacked terracotta pots somewhere. My sister told me to look at Petersham Nurseries' site for inspiration. They are located in England and their website is full of gorgeous pictures depicting an ideal garden atmosphere. Hopefully, I can channel the same rustic elegance.

Cover Up

Chairs can be costly to rent. Mom sent this idea along for possible coverings if we used the regular metal folding variety. This might save on rental costs...but how much? (considering the cost of the material for covers and time to make) Would it really be that much more to rent the white folding chairs? Oh the joys of wedding math! Also, how would the chair covering material be re-purposed after the wedding? I wouldn't want 100 chairs covers sitting in some forgotten box forever...or worse...thrown out.

It's Electric

Out with mom yesterday, I came across two chandeliers at the Mercantile Mall. One uses candles, the other electricity. You can probably guess which is which. The one that takes candles is cheaper...but I wonder if it would present a fire-hazard for my tent? hair?

If Cake, Then...

If we did have cake, we would probably do something like this. Love the style of this one I found on theknot. It was made by Classic Cakes in Carmel, Indiana. We had a tasting there along with several other places. How did it go? Well let's just say looks can be deceiving...especially with wedding cake.

Berrylicious

We may deviate from the traditional wedding cake. Besides...who doesn't love fresh strawberries and cream in the summer? Maybe throw in a few tiers of moist and delectable cupcakes. Yum!
